After having attended some very nice parties in other people's rooms, we thought it would be nice to invite some of our friends, old and new, to our cabin.

Party

As well as having the room to host a party on this cruise, we also have the benefit of having three stewards (Peter, Maureen, and Therese) who organize everything for us.

All we had to do was tidy up the cabin, invite as many as we thought the cabin would comfortably hold, order the wine and champagne, and ask Peter to provide the snacks. And voila, instant party!

It was a formal night, so our guests came all dressed for dinner. Therese came by early to put out the glasses and deliver the wines and champagnes in ice buckets. And as soon as she saw our guests arrive, in she came with trays of canapes and hot hor d'ourves which she passed around before leaving us to it.

As I watched the scene, I had this thought flash across my brain that I must be an extra in an Audrey Hepburn movie or something! It all seemed so 50s Hollywood - the ladies in their fancy gowns, the men in their tuxedos, champagne, canapes with caviar....  All that was missing were the cigarette holders! (I have to say that I have seen some gorgeous gowns on this cruise. I have also seen some getups that make me wonder if the wearer looked in a mirror before she stepped out of her room! But that's another blog.)

Wombat

We decided that we needed to record this event, so out came the cameras and we took our glasses out onto the balcony. The fact that a rather strong wind was blowing didn't deter us. So here is the merry group, after 2 bottles of champagne and two bottles of wine.

Billy

From left to right, please meet Hildegarde (wearing her Rio earrings and bracelet), Marty, Michael, Lynne, Jan (the tall lady to the left), Audrey, and Jim. I'm still picking tiny pieces of sparkle off the couch from Lynne's jacket.

The other pictures are of Willie and Billy, our two wombat mascots. We often come back to the room at night to find them reading a guide book, tucked under the covers, or up watching TV. The night of the party, we returned to find them passed out on the bed! Bad wombats! We left them in bed the next morning with a bottle of Tylenol.
