Syuru Village, The Asmat - Village Life

After the excitement of the ritual ceremonies, we took a break for lunch and some rest before going along the river in zodiacs to take some photos of village life. These people live an incredibly simple life in houses that are not much more than wooden shacks, but they all seem happy and satisfied. I saw a number of cell phones, including a “warrior" shooting pictures of the bisj poles being raised, and some satellite dishes on houses, but I also saw children swimming in the river, women putting out their fishing nets and catching shrimp, men caring for their children, etc. They love to have their photos taken, particularly the children, and some will whistle to get your attention if you are not shooting them. Here are a few photos to give you a flavor of what I am talking about.
